Displaced Becoming brings together nine artists of Asian heritage based in Berlin who critically engage with the evolving meanings of displacement and dislocation—not merely as physical conditions, but as existential and cultural states shaped by ongoing movement across borders, languages, and media. Their practices navigate the tension between inherited norms and the critical processes of unlearning and unmaking long-established traditions.

Positioned at geographic, cultural, and conceptual margins, these artists embrace the edge not as a boundary, but as a generative zone of friction, transformation, and becoming. They approach dislocation as material, method, and metaphor—a condition of continual negotiation. Drawing from Homi K. Bhabha’s concept of the “Third Space,” dislocation becomes a site of creative tension and potential transformation, where identity is not defined by origins but forged in relation. Through themes such as identity, migration, nature and supernature, and memory culture, the exhibition explores how experiences of dislocation catalyze artistic transformation.

Comprising nine Berlin-based artists of Asian descent, Displaced Becoming opens during the city's summer season in cooperation with Kunstpunkt. The exhibition serves as a welcoming and gathering space—embracing diverse perspectives shaped by displacement and transformation.
